What Can I Expect

The Boeing Pilot Simulator Experience - lift the lid on the life of a commercial airline pilot and step into their shoes to ‘fly’ a Boeing 747! We are offering vouchers for a 90 or 120-minute simulator session hosted by a current or ex-Boeing captain.

The simulator you’ll be flying is a Boeing 747-400. But this is not just any old sim, it has been built using a genuine ex-British Airways 747 top deck. Having flown millions of aeronautical miles under the Speedbird call sign for the UK’s flag-carrier airline, retirement has not stopped this behemoth of a Boeing from flying, albeit virtually!

So, what is it like working as a commercial Boeing pilot? Whether currently on the flight deck roster for the world’s biggest airlines flying to literally hundreds of destinations all over the world, or retired, you’ll get the chance to find out during your sim session.

Having been a pilot on the Boeing fleet, your instructor host will not only guide you through how to fly a 747-400, they’re sure to have plenty of anecdotes and tales from their time on the flight deck.

You’ll be able to ask all those questions you’ve always wanted to know the answer for. How do you become a commercial pilot? What’s it like flying all over the world for a living? Was the Boeing 747-400 a difficult plane to fly?

And of course, all this is while you are sitting in the captain’s seat, having a go at flying the 747 simulator yourself. You could be taking off from BA’s LHR base, practising approaches and landings at some of the world’s trickiest airports, or battling your way through wind and electrical storms on a short haul flight.

When Is It Available

• Tuesdays to Sundays throughout the year
• Dates and session times are subject to availability
• Sessions are generally available between 10:00-19:00

Suitable For

• Minimum age 8
• Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult, subject to a guest charge payable when booking your date (see spectators)
• Due to space constraints most wheelchairs will not fit into the flight deck.  Users must be able to make their way unaided from the cabin into the front cockpit seat 

Spectators

• Additional person charges apply should you wish to bring someone (up to 4 extra) to come with you to share the flying in the experience or just spectate
