What Can I Expect
Go canoeing in Nottingham and discover both town and country on these brilliant itineraries! We are offering both a half-day and a full-day trip out on the water to paddle the River Trent and the Nottingham & Beeston Canal.
The start and finish point for these canoe adventures is Nottingham's famous Victoria Embankment next to Trent Bridge. It's a lovely spot right where West Bridgford meets the city centre. Depending on which way you paddle, you'll be heading to the city or out to the countryside.
The half-day trip will see you paddling downstream past the Trent Bridge cricket ground, alongside Nottingham Forest's football stadium and through the bustling suburb of Lady Bay. You'll be paddling on the Trent towards Colwick, where you'll stop for a break at the lovely Colwick Park and Racecourse, before heading back upstream to the Embankment.
The full-day option is a circular trip taking in the very heart of Nottingham, as you canoe along the Nottingham & Beeston canal which passes right through the city. There's loads of industrial heritage here and make sure you look out for the waterside barge taverns such as Fellows, Morton & Clayton and The Canalhouse.
As you head past Castle Wharf, you'll get a glimpse of Nottingham Castle on the hill. Continuing along the canal you'll pass Castle Bridge and the Castle Marina, before traversing the River Leen. Now you're surrounded by Nottingham's modern industrial history, with the likes of Boots and Imperial Tobacco. Leaving the city behind, you'll arrive at Beeston Lock, where the canal meets the mighty River Trent. You'll then continue round on the Trent, to paddle back to where you started at Victoria Embankment.
As you can see, canoeing in Nottingham is not only great paddling fun out on the water, your trip also comes with lots of history, landmarks and wide-open green spaces included too! Reserve your canoe and get ready to discover Nottingham from the urban waterways.
