What Can I Expect

Tackle nature head on when you go canyoning in Scotland and experience the unique combination of climbing, abseiling and swimming, all in the rugged wilds of Perthshire. This Scottish canyoneering centre has introduced thousands of visitors to the delights of scrambling through ravines and gorges in a life jacket and rappelling down waterfalls on a rope.

Regardless of whether you're a gnarly fitness addict, or a casual walker, the Aberfeldy based team has explored all the canyoning areas Scotland boasts and reckon they've found the perfect canyon path for all levels of canyoneers.

Some of the most popular canyoning Scotland has to offer happens to be just a few miles from this activity centre that is based at the Keltney Burn Reserve, making it the preferred location for the majority of introductory canyoning sessions, as it combines steep wooded gorges with the more gentle meadowland preferred by walkers. The Keltneyburn Canyon has been slowly carved into the rock of the Dalradian Schists by the trickling tributary which flows into the River Tay before heading Eastwards to the North Sea at Dundee. This picturesque haven offers a range of river swims, rock jumping and water chutes that provide a fun challenge for all.

Canyoning is more about excitement and enjoying the beauty of the natural Scottish environment than sheer technical difficulty, so your intrepid instructor will vary the itinerary based on your ability and enthusiasm. Expect the contrast of taking on jumps from various heights and scrambles down natural rock formations, with invigorating swimming through white water pools.

Before you can get wet and wild on your half day adventure, you'll first need to attend a registration and welcome from your instructors. You'll be provided with all the equipment you need to tackle the canyons, including a wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid. A few scratches and bruises are to be expected, but this canyoning activity in the heart of Scotland is designed to be as safe and enjoyable as possible. Your fully qualified coaches will host a briefing outlining the route and explaining the techniques that you'll be using to negotiate the natural obstacles on the journey ahead.

You'll be part of a small group for your canyoning in Scotland day, with a ratio of one instructor to just eight canyon scramblers. This means you'll get clear instruction before tackling each gorge walking section and whilst you won't be waiting on that rock edge long to jump, you will always have a chance to catch your breath and admire the spectacular views of Scotland around you before taking on the next canyoning challenge.
