What Can I Expect
Explore Dickensian London on these Charles Dickens London Tours! Spend a couple of hours seeing the capital through Dickens’ eyes in the company of an expert host and guide on a two-hour walking tour.
Nineteenth century Victorian London was a grim and grimy place. Suffering from insomnia, Dickens spent many hours wandering those dark streets at night, finding inspiration and landmarks to use in his writing.
This tour lifts that lid on the London that time wanted to forget, but was immortalised by Charles Dickens. Without his difficult upbringing on those mean streets there’d be no Oliver Twist, no David Copperfield and certainly no A Christmas Carol!
Meeting at Charing Cross station, your guide will walk and talk with you as you plunge into the London of days gone by. The vestiges of the Victorian era are still very much apparent, with pubs, restaurants and shops still much as they were in Dickens’s time.
One of your favourite places to see on this Charles Dickens tour is The Old Curiosity Shop in the historic Clare Market area of central London, which claims to be the inspiration for the book of the same name by Dickens. Even Queen Victoria herself liked this one, saying it was : “very interesting and cleverly written”!
No visit to delve into Victorian London would be complete without a visit to a traditional pub and the one you’ll be stopping at was frequented by Dickens and keeps all of its period charm.
The tour ends at Fleet Street, mentioned in several of Dickens’ novels. We think you’ll see London in a completely new light on this Charles Dickens tour, so book your place today!
