What Can I Expect
All aboard the Saturday Churnet Valley Curry Train! Enjoy a deliciously fragrant curry served at your table, as you glide through the Staffordshire countryside. This is the Churnet Valley's very own Bombay Express and it's ready for evening departures with you onboard.
Whilst a takeaway curry is all very nice and well, how about indulging in the nation's second favourite dish (after fish and chips!) from the comfort of your armchair dining seat in First Class? Churnet Valley offers you train comfort from a bygone age, with a tasty curry to tickle your taste buds whilst you travel.
The curry train departs from Churnet Valley Railway's Froghall Station. Passengers are asked to be at the station 20-minutes before departure, so you can make the most of the red carpet treatment as your train boards. The dining manager will be in attendance welcoming all passengers, with waiting staff showing you to your seat. The dining carriage on the curry train is made up of tables for two and tables for four, so you may be sharing a table.
As your voyage begins, your dedicated waiter will start service of your curry meal. Freshly cooked in the train's galley kitchen, you'll be served poppadoms and chutneys, followed by classic Indian starters such as Bhajis, Samosas and Pakora. There's a choice main dish, from Tikka Masala to Veggie Dahl, all served with Naan breads and Basmati rice.
Whilst you're tucking into your Saturday curry on the move, you'll be travelling through the hidden valley where this heritage train line runs. On A 22-mile return journey, you'll steam along by the River Churnet and the Caldon Canal, passing through Consall and Cheddleton stations. It's quiet, picturesque and really rather lovely.
