What Can I Expect

Welcome aboard the world's only fully-functioning Concorde simulator! It's in Brunswick at a specialist flight simulator centre, so you may have to travel to get there, but for the chance to virtually fly supersonic in a realistic replica Concorde flight deck it is certainly worth it!

We are offering vouchers for 30, 60, two-hour and four-hour experiences in the Concorde flight simulator. And can we just say, if you opt for a four-hour session, you can fly from New York JFK to London Heathrow Airport in real time! How cool is that?

Concorde is, quite simply, an iconic aircraft. Such a beautiful plane that epitomised the glamour of international air travel during the 70s and 80s. If you were a celebrity, this was the only way to fly. Word has it the late Queen Mother always flew in the flight deck when Ma'am travelled by Concorde!

And what an incredible flight deck it is. This simulator comprises an faithful 12ft-long replica of a Concorde cockpit set up. It's a mind boggling array of dials and switches all around you (and it's all analogue, no digital stuff like today's airliners!).

Of course, Concorde was hugely innovative and totally unique in its day. And, as you'll find out when you're in the captain's seat for your sim experience, it's quite a different beast to fly…

Those iconic delta wings have no slats or flaps. There's a vertical tail, but no horizontal one. So how do you trim Concorde in flight? Well, that was the flight deck engineer's job, keeping the plane balanced by shifting some of those 26,000 gallons of fuel around!

Then there's that famous tilting nose cone. With no flaps for landing, it's all about glide pitch and speed, with that nose cone tilted at precisely 12.5-degrees.

And what about the speed? Going supersonic to cruise over the ocean at 1350mph at 60,000ft must've been thrilling for passengers and crew on every single flight. To handle speeds like that, Concorde was built with special expandable paint and alloy metal.

As you can probably tell, we're quite excited about these Concorde flight simulator experiences. Our top tip - pay locally on the day for up to two guests to ‘fly' with you on the flight deck. One in that side-on engineer's seat and another sitting (like the Queen Mum!) in the folding jump seat.
