What Can I Expect
Build your legacy in stone on a Dry Stone Walling course in the Peak District! These two-day courses take place on a farm in Diggle, right on the northernmost edge of the stunning Peak District.
A dry stone wall defines the British landscape. If you've ever hiked around the Peak District or pretty much through any farmland in the UK, you are sure to have come across dry stone walls. That's to say walls made from blocks of stone, without using cement or anything to make them stay up!
Your hosts for these hands-on courses are all full-time, professional wallers. Working with collaborators and colleagues, these highly-skilled craftspeople build, restore and create dry stone walls and features for clients including the National Trust, RSPB, Royal Horticultural Society, Chatsworth house and many more.
Teaching on how to strip out, prepare and rebuild is done literally out in the field, whilst you work to restore dry stone walls on the farm. It's incredibly satisfying to take a step back and admire your handy work when you complete a section of wall. And just think, this wall will quite easily be standing for another 100 years or so!
And we have to say, it's a bucolic location for your dry stone walling course. Diggle is a hidden gem of the Peak District, surrounded by hills, canals and the Pennine Way, just just 25 minutes from Manchester. If you're coming from further afield, there are lots of places to stay in the Saddleworth area, with accommodation in Diggle, Delph, Dobcross and a short drive away in Marsde.
For a weekend with a difference, book your place on a two-day dry stone walling course in the Peak District to learn how to make walls that will stand the test of time!
