What Can I Expect
East Kent railway tickets for two - enjoy a rail day at this lovely heritage steam railway, with lots to see and do during your visit, including a return train journey.
Formed in 1911 to serve the Kent collieries, the East Kent Railway ran from Shepherdswell to Richborough Port on the eastern coast. The line was closed in 1948 and it wasn’t until 1985 that enthusiasts got together to save the last few miles of track.
Thanks to the passion, hard work and fund-raising of the dedicated volunteers, the EKR has been running passenger trips since 1996, from Shepherdswell to Eythorne Station. The 2.5mile line runs through the impressive Golgotha Tunnel and through delightful Kentish countryside.
Your tickets for two include a return journey on the EKR line, which runs regular steam and diesel days throughout the season.
As well as your train ride, there are lots of things to do during your visit to East Kent. At Shepherdswell, make sure you pop into the award-winning visitor centre in the immaculately conserved signal box and the little museum featuring the 00 gauge model railway.
This is also where you’ll find Colonel’s Cafe. Access to the lovely Knees Woodland is from the cafe, with walks through the ancient woods that even feature WW2 trenches!
If you descend at Eythorne to stretch your legs, there’s the signal box to visit and picnic tables around for a nice sit down whilst you watch what’s happening on the track. There will also be a static train bar and restaurant at this terminus of the EKR line.
Being right next to the Southeastern mainline station of Shepherds Well, with hourly services to London Victoria and Dover Priory, the East Kent Railway is ideally located to arrive for your rail day by train! Buy your EKR tickets for two online now.
