What Can I Expect
Fly fishing Derbyshire! Get hooked on this peaceful waterside sport at lovely Ladybower Reservoir for these small group half-day fishing lessons hosted by David Johnson, with his personable style of tuition and enthusiasm for all things fish.
The fly fishing takes place mainly at Ladybower Fisheries on the famous reservoir, the largest of three lakes in the Upper Derwent Valley. This bucolic site boasts fishing from dawn until dusk and has well-laid out paths making the lake suitable for mobility-reduced visitors too. Lessons are also offered (for a small supplement) at nearby Barlow Trout Fishery.
The waters at Ladybower are kept well-stocked with Rainbow and Blue trout. David will explain to you just how important it is to know which fly to choose to fish with and when, with this Derbyshire fishery being particularly successful when casting little black buzzer, cat's whisker or bloodworm imitation flies.
Of course, that last sentence might mean absolute nothing to you, but that's the whole idea of these experiences. After selecting the right rod and reel for you, David and his team coach you as you fish.
With all that practical help and tuition, by the end of these courses in Derbyshire you'll know the necessary jargon to get you started in the world of fishing on the fly. Courses run with a maximum size of three novice anglers to one expert, for an 'all in it together' type lesson.
We think anyone interested in having a go at angling will love these fly fishing in Derbyshire days out with David, as he is patient and very passionate about his angling. You'll love the way fishing is a challenge, yet incredibly relaxing and makes you feel connected to nature as you take time to appreciate your lakeside surroundings. And you might even catch your fish supper!
