What Can I Expect
Flying lessons near Devizes and Calne, operating out of Yatesbury Airstrip. Take to the skies in a modern light sports aircraft for your first taste of flying with a 30 or 60-minute flight, or go the whole hog and stay for the day and train like a pilot!
These trial lessons are operated using an Ikarus C42 closed-cockpit aeroplane. These latest-generation fixed wing microlights have the equivalent performance of a typical Cessna training aircraft, but with much lower running costs. You'd be amazed how far you can fly on just one tank of fuel!
Indeed, even on a 30-minute flight you can easily cover around 40 miles when cruising at around 70 knots at between 1500 and 2000ft. The Ikarus is certainly an impressive machine and the instructors at Yatesbury love flying this plane on lessons. It's modern, designed and easy to fly, yet full of character - right down to the gull wing doors!
And this small and welcoming owner-operated and run airfield near Devizes is an amazing place to fly out of in your light sports aircraft. As soon as you're airborne it's quite a view. You are surrounded by historical sights and the North Wessex Downs and Vale of Pewsey are the backdrops to your flight.
All lesson options at this flight school near Devizes include a pre-flight briefing and the chance to fly the aircraft yourself. If you're really into your flying, we can highly recommend the full day training course. It gives you a really good insight into life at the club, with three 45-minute flights spread across the day. And, of course, time spent in the air will count towards your licence if you carry on with your training.
