What Can I Expect
Feasting and foraging in the Lake District! Spend the day in the most mindful way, discovering the abundance of tasty treats Mother Nature provides us with, as you explore ancient forests with foraging experts.
The Hermitage cottage at Rydal is your basecamp for the day. Just a couple of miles north of Ambleside, it's the perfect location within Cumbria and the Lakes. You're right on the edge of the River Rothay and the Rydal Hall estate, which was William Wordsworth's childhood home.
And in fact, you are surrounded by ancient woodland. Lesser-trodden paths through sun-lit clearings and shaded tree canopies lead you to a plethora of edible and medicinal plants, herbs and mushrooms, all growing naturally in this stunning setting.
Your hosts will talk you through the safety aspects of foraging, before you head out all together to see what you can find to feast on in this most lovely part of the Lake District.
Everything you find will have a use, either as a remedy or as an ingredient for your forest foraging lunch. This will be prepared on the open fire on the banks of the river and gives you and your fellow foragers the chance to sit down together over a meal.
The aim of these Lake District foraging courses near Ambleside is to open your mind and soul to what nature can provide. The experience is a great combination for food and nature lovers, showing you how to connect or reconnect with the natural world. And we think that this wholeheartedly possible in this calming and delightful setting.
