What Can I Expect
Get spooked on these ghost tours around Edinburgh! Hop onboard this rather spectral double decker bus and discover the somewhat gruesome past of Scotland's vibrant capital city. Rumour has it that 'Auld Reekie', as Edinburgh was known, is the most haunted place in the whole of Europe…
Ghosts and ghouls love Edinburgh. In fact, we could tell you that the dead outnumber the living, but that might just make you feel uneasy as you get ready to board the bus. Then there are the endless tales of mysterious unexplained deaths and gruesome goings on. There's even the odd Scottish witch hunt in the 16th and 17th centuries too. If you've got the head for all things scary and paranormal, with some ghoulish comedy thrown in, this the Edinburgh tour for you!
A genuine 1960s Routemaster bus will be your transport for this tour around the shadowy underworld of Edinburgh. As you trundle along some of the most famous routes around town, you'll be impressed by the wonderful buildings (Edinburgh has the nickname 'Athens of the North'). But behind these pleasing facades, there are often tales of woe and tragedy.
The Royal Mile is the epicentre of the ghostly activities, where you will be regaled with treacherous tales. Your grim motorised parade will include Greyfriar's Kirk, Grassmarket, New Town, Old Town, Holyrood Palace and, of course, Edinburgh's impressive hill top castle.
On these frightfully fun evening tours, you'll hear ghastly tales too, such as the story of the Burke and Hare murders of 1828, (the duo murdered and sold their unfortunate victims' cadavers for medical research) and delve into the paranormal side of Edinburgh.
But it's not just the landmark buildings of Auld Reekie that hide a wealth of scary scenarios, this theatrical sightseeing tour might just attract its very own poltergeist onboard the bus. Don't be surprised if strange things happen during your voyage. If, by any chance, a ghost does manage to get past the bus's conductor, rest assured. They wish you no harm and this Scottish ghost busting team is well versed in dealing with errant spooks trying to hitch a ride!
