What Can I Expect
This Dunstable gliding club is fantastically placed to experience unpowered flight, within very easy reach of London and the Home Counties. We are offering vouchers for a gliding experience of one x aerotow and a one-day course of three x aerotows.
The grass airfield where your glider flights take place is just west of Dunstable town centre, sitting pretty on the Dunstable Downs. Once you're airborne in your glider and soaring through the skies, you'll be able to see for miles and miles.
The club mostly uses the modern ASK21s gliders. These are tandem, two-seat gliders with superb visibility from the cockpit and they are well-renowned for being reliable and easy to fly.
After a pre-flight safety briefing, you'll climb aboard the glider for your flight. Your instructor will put you at ease before the tug plane starts to pull you into the air. Once airborne and released (at around 2000ft), you'll be amazed at the view down below of Dunstable, London and beyond.
If you opt for the one-day gliding course at Dunstable, you will experience a day in the life of the club. You'll learn about flying the glider and airfield operations, getting a real insight into how the club works. You'll also benefit from three aerotow flights across the day. A voucher for lunch at the on-site cafe is included and you'll receive a flight logbook and one month membership of the club too, so you can continue your journey into learning to glide.
It has to be said, this is a very well-equipped and friendly gliding club, where all members share a common interest - their passion for gliding. Indeed, it's very much a co-operative sport, with several pairs of hands needed to launch and land a glider.
These experiences allow you to see how it all comes together to make for a convivial, fun and very active Dunstable gliding community. And don't forget, the airfield is really convenient for the Home Counties and London. New members are always welcome, so let's see if you will be taking up a new hobby after your visit to the airfield!
