What Can I Expect
Hot air balloon rides from Taunton! Spend a blissful early morning or evening floating over the countryside in a balloon - it's something everyone should do at least once in their life!
Taunton is the county town of Somerset and it's a great base for hot air ballooning. This operator uses many bases in and around the area, including Hamilton Gault Park, which is east of Taunton and just five minutes' drive from the M5 east of Taunton. Launch sites will depend on weather conditions on the day.
Trips last around one hour and they will literally take you where the wind blows. The burners are used by the pilot to control your altitude, but balloons can't be steered, so it's a different adventure with every flight!
There's lots to see all over the Taunton area. There are loads of lovely National Trust properties such as Montacute House the country manor and estate, Barrington Court the Tudor mansion near Ilminster and Fyne Court arboretum and gardens between Taunton and Bridgwater. All look stunning from the air.
The joy of floating serenely at around 2000ft is that you get far-reaching views in every direction. Beyond the countryside around Taunton, you may well be treated to views of the Quantock Hills and the south coast. It really is a flight to behold!
What's more, all passengers are invited to assist with the inflation and packing up of the balloon. If you fancy it, it's a great way to start and round off the day you went hot air ballooning in Taunton (that and the celebratory glass of Champagne, of course!).
