What Can I Expect
Roll your sleeves up and prepare to get stuck and be a keeper for a day! The two of you will effectively become part of the animal park team for a whole day, helping the keeper team with the day to day running of this brilliant little wildlife centre near Telford.
These are very much hands-on experiences and you'll be undertaking many of the tasks a keeper would do daily. First off, there are cute little animals like Hedgehogs and Tenrecs to check in on. Making sure all the residents, both large and small, are happy is all part of being an animal keeper.
One of our favourite bits of the keeper's day is attending to Bear, the Raccoon. It's sure to be the first and probably the only time you'll get to be so close to this notoriously shy species. Known for their distinctive ‘face mask' markings, Raccoons are clever little things and highly skilled with their paws. Just take a look at Bear's forepaws - with five toes, they're like slender human hands!
Everyone loves when it's food time too, and on this full-day keeper session you'll be helping out with meal times. You might be bottle-feeding those boisterous kid goats, or giving food to the hungry meerkats (another highlight for many). Then it's time for your own break for lunch, which is included in this full day zoo keeper experience.
The afternoon will be spent meeting and hanging out with lots of the other residents, including those hand-reared Meerkats (so cute!), Foxes, Servals, Possums, Binturongs and handling one of this Shropshire animal centre's gorgeous European Eagle Owls.
You'll also be invited to assist with any demonstrations that are happening at the animal farm while you're there. The centre is open for visitors, so you'll be able to lend a hand ‘behind the scenes' as you work with your keeper as their assistant.
If you know someone who loves animals, we think they will absolutely love our ‘Keeper for a Day' courses. This is a proper working wildlife farm, so as an extra pair of hands, you will be a welcome addition to the keeper team.
