What Can I Expect

When it comes to Junior Falconry in Derbyshire, our mini experiences near Swadlincote are brilliant! Long enough to learn lots and short enough to keep the attention of little ones as young as four years old, everyone loves these one-hour sessions.

Out in the farmer’s field, you will be introduced to various birds of prey. Head falconer Dan is quite rightly very proud of his magnificent birds. As you’ll soon find out, each one has their own character - and they can be as cheeky as the kids!

Getting to meet and fly a Barn Owl and a Kestrel is totally amazing. Yes, they do have big claws, but they’ve been well trained to land softly on your gloved hand - and if you reward them with a tasty treat, they will love you too.

And it’s a proper day out in the Derbyshire countryside, as you’ll be right in the heart of the National Forest. This is where the birds feel most at home, flying around the hedgerows and over open fields.

Suitable for youngsters from the age of four, grown ups can use these vouchers too, so they can actively take part in the experiences. If not, spectator tickets are available on the day (£10 at the time of writing) to accompany the children throughout their visit.

A great way to introduce youngsters to birds of prey and spending time outdoors, we think our junior falconry experiences in Derbyshire are the perfect activity for mini falconers (and their grown ups too!).

When Is It Available

• During national school holidays
• Sessions generally take place from 12:00 to 13:00
• Additional times may be available during busy periods
• Experiences are weather dependent, your experience will be rescheduled if bad weather is forecast

Suitable For

• Minimum age 4
• Under 16s must be accoumpanied by a participating or spectating adult

Spectators

• Spectators may attend for a fee payable on the day of £10, cash only
• Parents can to purchase a voucher to handle the birds too and join the session to make it a whole family experience

Anything Else

• As the experience takes place on an open plot of land there are no toilets however there is a local pub 'The Bubble' nearby which has facilities you may use
• Participants will receive 10% off food in the pub
• Please wear practical footwear and outdoor clothing
