What Can I Expect
Steel yourself on a knife-making course in Cornwall! This one-day intensive workshop will see you hand-crafting a personalised all-steel knife that you will be taking home with you to be used, treasured and loved for many years to come.
Bladesmith Ronen lives in the middle of the countryside on Cornwall's Roseland Peninsula near Truro. His secluded forge on this idyllic heritage coast is a hive of activity and it's where his highly creative knife designs are brought to life.
The knife you will be making is all-steel. This is the one of the best types of knife blade you can make, as it is super durable. Interestingly, Ronen uses mainly recycled steel for his blades - in particular the suspension springs from vehicles! Compared to simply using sheet steel, it's a whole load of work to re-use the steel springs, but it is of excellent quality and Ronen loves a challenge!
You will be taught how to handle hot steel, as well as grinding, heat treating, polishing and sharpening techniques. And whilst it might sound quite tricky, Ronen always says that if you can lift a hammer, you can make a knife. So absolutely no experience is necessary to attend these workshops in lovely Cornwall.
The finishing touch to your knife will be etching your little motif or initials onto the blade. This is a really nice idea, as it makes your knife totally unique to you and it's a poignant reminder of the day you forged, shaped and finished your very own all-steel knife.
Working with Ronen to craft knives is a real pleasure. A true craftsman who is warm, welcoming and passionate about his bladesmithing, he also makes the best Turkish-style coffee there is! Book your place on a knife-making course in Cornwall and get ready to forge!
