What Can I Expect
One of the best ways to do a Lake District tour has to be by helicopter, with the chance to see the water and the mountains, as well as the towns and villages around the wonderful Lake Windermere from the air.
The Lake District is one of the most popular tourist areas of the UK. In summer, roads can get saturated and the towns are teeming with people. With these helicopter voyages you'll be avoiding all the hassle on the ground and getting the very best views of this, one of the most celebrated and picturesque parts of the country.
We are offering two different flight paths for you on these Lake District helicopter tours. Take off from Kirkbride Airfield just east of Carlisle and you'll tour the Lakes from the north. Depart from Greenlands Farm helipad near Carnforth and you'll head up from the south side.
Greenlands Farm Village is a working dairy farm, family activity and visitor centre at Tewitfield, ideally placed for exploring the Lake District by heli. Within seconds of taking off, you'll be able to start picking out all those sights. It's a similar story over at Kirkbride, with the South Solway Nature Reserve right beneath you as you take off, as you head south in the direction of Windermere.
Both tours are 30 minutes long. There are fascinating manmade and natural sights whichever way you go. During your helicopter tour you might see the delightful hamlet of Newby Bridge, just at the southern tip of Lake Windermere. You could pass by the likes of Storrs Hall, the impressive Grade II Georgian lakeside mansion that's now a four star hotel. Then there are Bowness, Ambleside and Furness Fells - including Coniston Old Man, the highest summit at 803m.
One thing is certain, it'll be the most panoramic flight path you can imagine, as you look down from the chopper to watch the waters of the lake ripple beneath you. Book your seat now on a Lake District tour by helicopter - and in fact, why not treat someone you love and book two places in the heli?
