What Can I Expect
Go undercover on a London spy experience! These guided tours offer a fascinating insight into the sometimes murky world of spying in the capital. From the very real spies of the Second World War, to famous fictitious spies, this London spy walk has it all.
Your meeting point is the Petty France exit at St James's underground station. As soon as you step out onto the street you're in spy land. Innocuous-looking offices housed special Government agencies around these parts, proving you just never know what goes on behind those banal office blinds!
Your host will lift the lid on the world of espionage, intelligence (and counter-intelligence!) eavesdropping, treason and double-crossing, showing you the locations where all this sort of thing happened.
For example, did you know the Secret Intelligence Service (latterly M16) was formed by Sir George Mansfield Smith-Cummings in a residential flat in Queen Anne's Gate? And what's more, there was apparently a secret tunnel too?
St James's park is a lovely oasis of calm in the centre of London. But if those ducks on the pond could talk, they'd tell you that clandestine meetings between spies standing on the bridge above were commonplace…
Naturally, no spy experience would be complete without a visit to London's ‘Clubland'. Back in the day, the St James's area was filled with gentleman's clubs, where deals were done on a handshake over a cocktail and cigar.
And talking of cocktails, you will love your visit to the Caxton Bar at the St Ermin's Hotel for a Vesper Martini. Invented by author Fleming for his hero Bond to order for double agent Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, it's a potent mix of gin, vodka and kina lillet.
Your spy tour finale leads you to a very special private club in Whitehall, where you'll relax and take part in a Q & A session over a meal. A highly appropriate way to end your London spy experience! Buy your vouchers online now.
