What Can I Expect
Lovely Lowestoft boat trips are ready to depart! This is your chance to explore the local area around Lowestoft Port, viewing it all from ‘the other side', that's to say the water.
We are offering two itineraries for you to choose between. You can stay within the harbour and port areas, or head out onto the open seas around the coast. Both are full of things to see and both are fabulous to do.
This part of Suffolk has been an important port for many, many years, thanks to its direct access to the North Sea. And whilst the engineering, ship building and fishing industries have wavered, Lowestoft remains a bustling place, with offshore energy and the leisure craft sectors remaining buoyant (excuse the pun!).
This whole area in and around the port is fascinating to explore on the Harbour Tour. Vessels as wide as 35m and as long as 125m can easily enter the main harbour mouth. And you can still see the cranes and dry dock areas of the container and engineering ports.
The Inner Harbour is actually Lake Lothing, a saltwater lake beyond the bridge, which splits Lowestoft into two halves. You'll see all this on your gentle 4-knots cruise around the harbour area, going right up to the impressive 14,000-tonne silo, before turning around to head back.
On the Coastal Sights Tour you will head out beyond the cocooning harbour walls to the North Sea. Once you're on those open waters, your skipper can open up the throttle, accelerating the jet-boat to an effortless 20-knots. At this speed you'll be bouncing along, so be prepared for sea spray - but that's all part of the fun!
Depending on the weather and sea conditions on the day, you could head to Britain's most easterly point at Ness Point (you can't miss the big wind turbine!), or go south to gaze out to beautiful beaches and Claremont Pier.
Both tours last around 45-minutes and are operated by a family-run company. Buy your tickets for the Lowestoft boat trip of your choice and get ready to be welcomed aboard by your skipper and the crew.
