What Can I Expect

The sky is your new playground when you go microlighting in Manchester! Barton Aerodrome is home for microlight maestro Mark and his flexwing P&M aviation microlights. This is the premier microlighting school in the North West and being just a short hop from Manchester this centre is well-placed and easy to get to. So what are you waiting for, it's time to go microlighting!

Manchester/Barton (or Manchester City Airport as it was formerly known) was purpose-built in the late 1920s and is one of the country's largest General Aviation airports. Before and after WW2, several scheduled flights operated out of City Airport and although it's more microlights and other light aircraft today, the vestiges of Barton's bustling past remain with the Grade II listed control tower, terminal building and hangar - all of which you'll get to see with a front-row seat in your microlight with Mark!

Mark is hugely experienced when it comes to flying these flex wing machines. When he's not zooming around the skies of Manchester, he and his trusty Quik microlight are off doing things like Around Great Britain races, flying from John o'Groats to Land's End and back again, or even setting altitude records as the first person to fly a microlight over Kilimanjaro at a (literally) breathtaking 24,262ft.

So as you can see, you'll be in highly experienced hands for your micolighting out of city airport. And as well as flying over the sights of Eccles, Trafford Park and beyond to the bright lights of Manchester, your microlight flight will also serve as your very first pilot lesson. That means you won't just be a passenger on these experiences, you'll get to have a go at the controls and actually fly too.

As Mark himself says, the P&M Quik flex wing microlight is the perfect aircraft for training as it is a 'superb light, yet positive-handling and stable all-rounder with novices'! What will most certainly rub off on you during your 30 or 60 minute lesson is Mark's utter enthusiasm for his sport. And as he says, it's all about that wonderful sense of freedom, as you're sure to agree when you get to meet and fly in one of these marvellous microlights in Manchester!
