What Can I Expect
Get airborne in a microlight at Sywell Aerodrome! Our supplier offers 30 and 60-minute lessons in flex-wing, open-cockpit microlights so you can get that ‘open air' feeling whilst you fly over the Northamptonshire countryside.
The historic airport of Sywell, in between Wellingborough and Northampton, has seen its own fair share of aviation action over the years since opening in 1928. Today it's a busy little aerodrome that regularly wins awards for best airfield. A truly delightful location.
As well as offering training and trial lessons, this centre at Sywell is a micro and ultra-light specialist. They do everything from supply and manufacturing, to repairs and hangarage. It's all about microlights for this lot and they really are the experts in their field!
You will be taking a lesson in one of the school's flex-wing microlights, usually a Quik GT 450, one of the most popular aircraft in the sector and a great reliable and high-performing choice for these hands-on experiences.
Each session starts with a welcome and pre-flight briefing, before you taxi off past the classic art deco Aviator Hotel and the original restored control tower. Your instructor will handle take off and once you've climbed up and over the airfield, you'll be invited to ‘take control'.
This is the moment you will be actually flying the flex-wing microlight, with that wonderful ‘wind in your face' feel. It's quite a thrill and you can feel very proud of yourself as a budding pilot!
With great facilities (there's a hotel, clubhouse, lounge and restaurant on site) and a passionate and dedicated team, you're sure to love the day you went up in a flex-wing microlight from Sywell Aerodrome in the heart of Northamptonshire.
