What Can I Expect
Blossom in the art of blacksmithing on these Poppy Making workshops! Work with raw iron and the heat to forge your very own, handcrafted metal poppy.
Oldfield Forge is a great place. Founded by Aaron and Nicky, the family forge has grown to be a team of blacksmiths, each sharing their skills and creativity with budding blacksmiths and artists who sign up for workshops and courses.
This flower-themed class lasts three hours and concentrates on making a decorative piece of forged iron that is simple, yet stunning. The poppy is a delicate, yet strong flower. A symbol of peace and hope.
Under the guidance of your blacksmith tutors, you will learn traditional techniques used to heat and hammer the raw metal, to create those distinctive petal shapes. Each poppy is unique and you’ll be able to add some lovely little personal touches too.
And don’t forget about keeping the fire going! The forge will already be lit and up to temperature when you arrive for your experience, then you’ll be shown how to keep them burning and maintain forging temperature.
Forging your own poppy during these workshops is going to be noisy, messy and hot work, but the result of all that hard work is a stunning, artistic piece created by you that you will be proud to take home with you.
