In the late 19th century Harlow Carr was a private estate with a Bath House to make the most of the sulphurous spring water found on site. After being the show gardens for the Northern Horticultural Society, the 58-acre estate is now managed by the Royal Horticultural Society - and the Bath House is now a library and study centre.

Reflecting the Yorkshire landscape and the history, it's a true delight to wander around these well laid out gardens. Harlow Carr boasts a splendid array of display gardens. The Candelabra Primulas are spectacular - and the Primroses get a special mention too!

Strolling along the Streamside and walking over the bridge on the Queen Mother's Lake is sure to reward you with lots of wildlife, as you meander along the bank and round the many paths hidden in the trees.

We particularly like the Alpine House with over 2000 alpine and rock plants, as well as the Sub Tropicana house for very photogenic colourful exotics!

Many of the garden areas are wheelchair and mobility scooter accessible and situated just a 30-minute walk from the centre of Harrogate, Harlow Carr is a veritable oasis in the city.  And as well as lots of benches on which to sit and contemplate, there are lovely tea rooms and a garden centre too.
