What Can I Expect

River Dart canoeing - a gentle adventure amongst nature! These three-hour tours are a lovely way to explore the tidal river by canoe, with an experienced instructor and guide leading the way.

The guides on these River Dart canoe tours are great. They all love to share their local knowledge and their paddle skills and techniques to keep the whole group safe and entertained. Trips are suitable for all ages, as the two and three-seater canoes are used.

Your serene morning or afternoon out on the water in the canoe will be filled with lots of things to see. See if you can spot Sharpham House, the rather grand Georgian manor house retreat in a lovely setting as you glide on by in your canoe.

Then there’s all that the River Dart itself holds. From spotting playful seals if you’re very lucky, to seeing some of the abundant bird life and fish, it’s all wonderful to witness from your canoe!

For history buffs, keep a keen eye out for the Paddle Steamer Wreck. Operating tourist trips from Totnes to Dartmouth in the 1920s, the ‘Totnes Beach’ boat sank whilst being towed away in 1967. Then there are the remains of the river walls, which were built in the Napoleonic wars - and even discover the Hole in the Wall amongst the salt marsh reeds!

Probably canoeing along the River Dart as far as the delightful village of St Gabriel before turning to head back to Totnes, these guided trips are serene, fun and just a little bit adventurous all at the same time.
