What Can I Expect
Get a grip on a Skid Control taster experience at Tockwith! An introductory session out on the skid pan at this outdoor driving centre just west of the city of York.
We like the motto they use at Tockwith: ‘Lose control to gain control’. And indeed, you only know how to regain control of your car when you’ve lost control. And rather than that happening on the open roads, much better for you to get some training on a skid pan.
This school uses a small, purpose-built, low-grip skid pan. You will be driving a normal car (namely the BMW 3 series), but it’ll be set up for you to get into skids easily. No cradles are used at this Tockwith venue, it’s all about the tyres and (lack of) grip and the pan’s slippery surface.
To get a feel of what it’s like to get into and out of a skid, you will have a couple of laps in the car with your instructor driving. Then it’s over to you.
You’ll have around 20-minutes out on the pan, giving you a good taste of learning how to handle and control the car in skidding situations. These experiences are a great way to learn a very useful driving skill, whilst having fun and all in a safe, controlled environment.
These skid controls taster sessions at Tockwith operate on a private, one-to-one teaching basis and are available all year round, hosted by fully qualified ARDS and BARS advanced driving instructors. Definitely worth giving it spin!
