What Can I Expect
Somerset Railway's cream tea - mix the picturesque Mendip Hills with a heritage railway and a healthy dollop of clotted cream and you've got a fabulous cream tea experience!
Enjoy the simple pleasures in life, as your vintage train carriage ambles along the tracks. Outside, the stunning South West scenery drifts past your window, whilst inside steaming cups of tea and delicious scones are being served at your table.
For this most quintessential of English pastimes, you'll catch the 15:30 Mendip Belle service from Cranmore station, which is the main base for the lively and friendly East Somerset Railway.
With beautifully renovated dining carriages, there's no better way to appreciate train travel the way it should be. Relax into the soft, comfy seats around your table, draw back the curtains to take in the magnificent rural views and tuck into plain scones with butter, jam and clotted cream, served with a pot of tea or coffee.
Along your route you'll stop at Cranmore West, as well as Merryfield Lane Halt. The end of the line is Mendip Vale and this is where the steam train engine uncouples from the carriages and 'runs around' to the opposite end, ready for your return journey. This process takes around 15 minutes, so you've got plenty of time to polish off your cream tea and step off the steam train, to take photos and appreciate the views. Then it's time for the return journey, with passengers disembarking at Cranmore.
And remember, you can ride other scheduled services before your booked Cream Tea train departure. You can also visit the engine sheds and workshops (a rarity amongst heritage railways these days), so it's well worth a full day out. Buy your Somerset Railway cream tea vouchers online now!
