What Can I Expect

A steam train afternoon tea in Derbyshire - with return travel to the heritage railway by wonderful vintage bus, departing from a selection of pick up points around North Nottinghamshire.

Prepare for a fun day out filled with nostalgia from the 1940s, 50s or 60s with these themed day trips. Ernie (born in 1936), Walter (born in 1946) and Ethel (born in 1956) are the fantastic vintage buses polished and gleaming, ready for your excursion.

Once you arrive at the Ecclesbourne Valley Heritage Railway, the longing for the past continues as you step aboard a steam-hauled train for a full round trip along this heritage line through Derbyshire.

Whilst you get settled in and sip your welcome glass of Prosecco, the train stewards will be preparing to bring out your luxury afternoon platters, to be served at your table. The sweet and savoury treats are accompanied by freshly-brewed Taylor’s of Harrogate tea or coffee.

And the entertainment continues onboard too, with a live singer performing hits from decades gone by. The 1940s themed afternoon tea will feature big band and jazz tunes (think Bing Crosby and Vera Lynn). The 50s-themed tea trip is ‘Dreamlands & Petticoats’ style with rock n roll, pop and merseybeat songs. And the 60s? Well, it’s the age of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones of course!

After your toe-tapping journey along the Ecclesbourne railway, you’ll alight back at base in Wirksworth, where your vintage coach will be waiting to take you back to your departure point to round off your superb steam train afternoon tea at Derbyshire’s friendliest railway!
