What Can I Expect
Join this East London Street Art Tour and photograph the best of the constantly changing street art in the capital! These two hour photography tours will take you to East London's Shoreditch and Hoxton areas, including Brick Lane, where colourful street art is as vibrant as the community it shares.
Steve has been photographing street art for many years. He's utterly fascinated by the world of urban artists. He knows this whole area of East London really well and his invitation to join his tour is your chance to get insider knowledge of the artists and their works that adorn the streets, courtyards and buildings.
Tours meet at Old Street station. From there, you'll be guided by Steve. Taking in everything from huge murals to hidden gems the everyday passerby would miss, it's a really rich mix of styles, colours and influences, often with a political or social message included.
Everyone knows of Banksy, 'Britain's unlikeliest national treasure' and sure, Banksy made his mark on this area, but there's so much more to street art in East London. This tour will show the best of the art by the best contemporary street artists of the moment, with fresh works appearing as quickly as they disappear, it's an ever changing canvas.
You might see the latest big wall painting by Shoreditch-based artist Jim Vision, or be shown some of Otto Schade's surrealist and abstract work. Then there's Stik from Hackney, well-known for oversize stick figures. And Woskersky? We love the amazing eyes that often feature. You might even see a Thierry Noir piece. This French-born artist is renowned for his brightly coloured, cartoon style works and was the first artist to paint the Berlin Wall in 1984, pre-empting its fall in 1989.
From stencils quickly used on walls, to intricate sprays on rolling shutter doors, this traditionally industrial landscape is now a mix of achingly cool loft apartments and warehouse conversions, alongside the multicultural mix of food shops, markets stalls, specialist shops and eateries that bring East London to life.
For these East London Street Art Tours you just need a camera or even a camera-phone to be able to capture these striking images. Steve will share his photography know-how so you can take some really stylish photographs of the art you encounter on your tour. A very cool way to see beyond the usual tourist attractions of the capital!
