What Can I Expect

Work with the metal and the heat on a sword forging experience! This two-day course in Hereford will take you through making a decorative sword step by step. It's a fascinating and unusual way for the two of you to spend time together!

You will be fashioning a hand-forged decorative metal sword during this experience. It'll be totally bespoke and, of course, you will be fully involved in the design of the sword. You can even engrave your family crest, coat of arms or initials to make it a family heirloom to treasure.

The forge where you'll be working is a family-run business headed up by husband and wife duo Aaron and Nicky. Aaron is a talented blacksmith, with a particular passion for heritage ironmongery. He is highly creative, with a great attention to detail and is the ideal mentor for any budding sword maker.

Aaron and team will welcome you to the large, bright, airy and well-equipped forge barn. There are multiple workstations, so several duos can be getting on with their handcrafted sword at the same time, with Aaron keeping a watchful eye. You'll work through each stage of the forging process at a relaxed pace, with expert help at every step.

By the end of your two days at the forge, the two of you will have created a stunning decorative and authentic forged sword. It might look like a sword from Medieval times, or maybe you'll go for a more contemporary design? Whatever you hope to achieve from this sword making course, we think you'll be highly impressed with how professional the finished forged swords will look.

As sword forging is quite a specialist course, students are often prepared to travel to attend. Aaron and Nicky will be able to assist with finding local accommodation if you're not local to the Hereford area and fancy making a weekend of it.
