For these shared group flights, the larger balloons are used, with a basket that can hold up to 10 passengers. And, if you’re up for it (and most people are!) you can help out with setting out and inflating before your flight and with the packing down after you have landed.

And of course, there’s no telling where exactly you’ll land, as it all depends on where the winds over Winchester want to take you, there’s no real way of steering a hot air balloon!

As for landing, they can sometimes be smooth and glidey, or speedier with a bounce or a bump. Both are completely normal and you’ll be prepped by the crew for either and it’s all part of the hot air ballooning experience.

Once airborne, the views are more incredible than you could ever imagine. There’s that definite serenity of being in a balloon, looking down on the world in miniature, but you can still quite clearly hear and see people shouting hello and waving as you float past!

When Is It Available

• Vouchers are valid for use Monday to Thursday from April to October
• The meeting time for morning flights is generally 06:00 and 18:30 for evening flights
• Times may vary slightly throughout the season
• Weather conditions need to be optimal for balloons to fly safely
• If the weather forecast is deemed unsuitable your flight will be rescheduled

Suitable For

• Minimum age 7
• Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult
• Participants must be able to get in and out of a basket (the crew will help those who need assistance), stand for the duration and understand the important safety briefing given by your pilot
• You must be able to assume the landing position of bent knees with ankles together to absorb any impact
• Flying after major surgery, whilst suffering from a significant medical condition or whilst pregnant in your second/third trimester is not permitted

Spectators

• Family and friends are welcome to watch your take-off but are not permitted to drive on to a launch field
• They may follow the balloon and greet you on landing

Anything Else

• Warm, comfortable layers should be worn
• Comfortable flat shoes (no flip flops, open-toed sandals or high heels)
• Hats or caps are recommended to protect your head from the burners
