What Can I Expect

Bird photography in Wales. One-day workshops, as well as residential courses in the most beautiful part of Powys in mid-Wales. Hosted by expert wildlife photographer John, these courses are peaceful for mind, body and soul!

You will be going to Bird Cottage on the secluded hillside near Llanidloes. This gorgeous stone cottage has been lovingly restored, with a traditional wood burning stove and all the modern features to feel comfy and cosy.

In summer, the garden is a delight. John has installed nesting boxes and bird feeders to help attract those feathered friends you will be photographing. It's a great spot to sit, observe and take photos, all with tuition and coaching from John.

Not far from Bird Cottage is a Red Kite Feeding Centre and a visit often features in the itinerary for these bird photography courses. It really is quite a spectacle when you see literally hundreds of these majestic birds swooping in to feed. And the scene makes for impressive photographs, filled with movement and energy.

Photographer John is an excellent tutor. He has many, many years of experience capturing stunning images of birds and wildlife and has been lucky enough to make his passion his career. He is also very knowledgeable about bird species, habitats and behaviour, so you'll learn a lot.

If you opt for a residential course, you will be staying in your own en-suite room in Bird Cottage, surrounded by all that abundant wildlife. Your evening meals are all included and it's a convivial affair, sitting together at the farmhouse kitchen table, or outside on the terrace in clement weather.
