RC Flying tuition at BMFA Buckminster
Tuition from Qualified Model Flying Instructor & Model Flying Examiner
Fly fixed wing aircraft, with Mode 2 transmitter controls (throttle & rudder on the left stick, aileron & elevator on the right stick)
2 flights of approximately 8 minutes per flight
Coffee break, with general discussion on the progress, aims the next flights & any update required on the theory of flying the model
Further two 8 minute flights with briefing between them
Flights are recorded onto a micro-SD card using 'Flight Coach' and results can be emailed to you help improve the understanding of the training
Courses are tailor-made to your requirements
Training flights are operated 'Dual Control', with the instructor and trainee linked via a 'Buddy box' system

What Can I Expect

Model plane training at Buckminster - the home of the British Model Flying Association! Hosted by experienced flyer Russ, these three-hour private lessons will get you flying at this superb centre on the Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire / Leicestershire border.

Host Russ is highly experienced. Not only is he a qualified training coach for model planes, he is also pretty nifty with the full-size versions, as he’s a qualified instructor/examiner on commercial aircraft. And before you ask, he loves flying the big planes and the little ones equally!

Your one-to-one model plane training will take place at the BMFA’s home ground at Buckminster, in the countryside not far from Grantham and Melton Mowbray. This 43-acre site is a haven for model plane flyers, with lots of space to fly.

We are offering vouchers for two types of model plane training sessions. Absolute beginners will be interested in the Basic Training, which sets you on the road to achieving your ‘A’ test. This is the certification many model clubs ask for, as it shows you are safe to fly solo.

The Advanced Training is ideal for anyone with some experience, or if you have already completed the basic training. At this level, you will be starting to discover the absolute joys of flying aerobatics in the model planes.

Russ is super knowledgeable, patient and welcoming at this fantastic location. And indeed, the BFMA venue at Buckminster is the creme de la creme for avid model plane fans, with a well-stocked RC model museum, Flyers’ Cafe and an events diary filled with swapmeets, fly-ins, competitions and more.
