What Can I Expect

A lovely Dorset day out combining a trip on the Swanage Railway with a Poole boat tour! You'll have lots of fun riding the steam trains and cruising the seas on this full day out on the Jurassic coast - and it's perfect for passengers of all ages!

Your departure point for your sea and train adventure is Poole Quay. From here, you'll step aboard the sightseeing boat operated by City Cruise Poole and set sail for the first part of your rail and boat journey. Marvel at the swishness of Sandbanks as you head out of the bay and feel the sea wind in your hair as you cruise past Studland and Old Harry Rocks, to dock at Swanage.

There's time for you to explore the beachfront, shops and cafes of this quaint Victorian seaside town, before heading to the next stage of your Jurassic day trip.

The Swanage Railway is a family-friendly heritage railway running full-size steam and diesel trains along the former Swanage to Norden branchline. As you'd imagine, the Isle of Purbeck countryside is a joy to discover by steam train.

Your Swanage railway tickets are valid for a return trip on the full line. You can alight at Corfe Castle station to explore the famous ruins of William the Conqueror's castle, or you can go to the terminus at Norden. This station is at the foot of the Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum, offering a fascinating insight into the geology and mining heritage of this part of the mineral-rich Jurassic coast.

Back at Swanage, it's time to leave the bygone era of steam behind for your return cruise to Poole. Sit back and relax inside, or head out to one of the exterior decks and drink in those amazing vistas. And to keep you informed and entertained, there's commentary onboard, so you'll hear the history of this part of Dorset's Jurassic coastline whilst you cruise.

With great value adult and child tickets available from us in just a few clicks online, we think this package with Swanage Railway and City Cruise Poole tickets included, is a fantastic way to discover this gorgeous part of Dorset.
